In the spirit of getting things rolling, let's do a quick exercise! Because the little things we accomplish every day are crucial to our long term goals, we should be sure to acknowledge and celebrate them. It's all well and good to want to learn Chinese, but you can't get there without the day-to-day effort of learning new words and characters!
So, here's the exercise: Comment with at least one thing you did today that you're proud of. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It can be multiple things! It can be absolutely anything.
And if you can't think of something, or you didn't accomplish as much as you wanted, rather than get down on yourself try writing a sentence about what you're going to do to improve matters. If you accidentally slept in when you intended to get up early, instead of telling yourself how lazy you are, write that tomorrow you're going to put your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up in order to shut it off. Negative self-talk doesn't get things done!
Go, fight, win!

Date: 2012-12-18 10:50 pm (UTC)Secondly, when I said I would start studying at 5 pm, I started pretty darn close, around 5:20 pm, and I'm still going!
I will point out that yes, I did make a few mistakes today, but I will improve on them by waking up early enough to study extra tomorrow and staying on top of it!

Date: 2012-12-19 02:08 am (UTC)Might sound weird, but I'm proud I called into work instead of forcing myself to go on two hours of sleep for a ten hour shift. It's healthier on a mental frame, rather than being bitter and crabby. Also, calling in isn't easy for me - it's not something I like to do. I try to avoid it, sometimes at the expense of my health. So yeah.
However, as I don't want to call in, and I like sleep, I want to take better preventative cautions to help with the insomnia. Starting with tea and sleep aids before bed tonight. And did some dancing/stretching/sit ups earlier to help get rid of some of my extra energy.

Date: 2012-12-19 02:18 am (UTC)And tea and sleep aids, coupled with the exercise, sound like excellent ways to start battling that insomnia! \o/

Date: 2012-12-20 02:00 am (UTC)I did sleep better than the night before, if nothing else.

Date: 2012-12-19 02:22 am (UTC)I also managed to come up with new test cases for my test plan today, which I was super proud of. My job requires me to test software and figure out all the ways I can break it so we can fix those bugs before we ship our stuff out to customers, and while I've been excellent at testing the things I'm told to test, I've always struggled with thinking of things outside the box.

Date: 2012-12-19 02:26 am (UTC)And yay for work accomplishments, especially something you've struggled with in the past!

Date: 2012-12-19 07:30 pm (UTC)And it's great that you managed to think creatively, especially since that's something difficult for you. Amazing! <3
