dawning_light: (SEED - Lacus tomorrow)

In the spirit of getting things rolling, let's do a quick exercise! Because the little things we accomplish every day are crucial to our long term goals, we should be sure to acknowledge and celebrate them. It's all well and good to want to learn Chinese, but you can't get there without the day-to-day effort of learning new words and characters!

So, here's the exercise: Comment with at least one thing you did today that you're proud of. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It can be multiple things! It can be absolutely anything.

And if you can't think of something, or you didn't accomplish as much as you wanted, rather than get down on yourself try writing a sentence about what you're going to do to improve matters. If you accidentally slept in when you intended to get up early, instead of telling yourself how lazy you are, write that tomorrow you're going to put your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up in order to shut it off. Negative self-talk doesn't get things done!

Go, fight, win!

It's a work related thing, but I finally sat down and wrote up a unique monitoring form for a potential issue here at work (it ended up not being one, which is good! But the write-up still needs to happen so auditors know we followed up on it properly). This has been on my to do list for 3 weeks now and getting that marked off my list makes me feel great considering I have a ton of similar write-ups on the backlog I need to get to.

Once one is down, the rest should be easy enough to start finish, right?

Man, work stuff is always so hard for me to accomplish sometimes, so you are clearly a master! And the rest will totally be easy for you to start finish. :D

Totally agree! Once you get started and something gets accomplished, it does get easier. At lest, it works that way for me. I feel better and accomplished, and start getting on a roll.

Keep at it!

I am proud of two small things. The first is that during the review session, I paid attention and learned something that I think will be a useful visualization technique for my Friday exam.

Secondly, when I said I would start studying at 5 pm, I started pretty darn close, around 5:20 pm, and I'm still going!

I will point out that yes, I did make a few mistakes today, but I will improve on them by waking up early enough to study extra tomorrow and staying on top of it!

You are excellent! And 5:20 is pretty darn close to 5, so I think you are doing swimmingly. :D

Even if it wasn't right when you wanted to start, it's something! You still started.

And good luck with the exam!

Despite being on minimal sleep due to insomnia, still did my daily chores.

Might sound weird, but I'm proud I called into work instead of forcing myself to go on two hours of sleep for a ten hour shift. It's healthier on a mental frame, rather than being bitter and crabby. Also, calling in isn't easy for me - it's not something I like to do. I try to avoid it, sometimes at the expense of my health. So yeah.

However, as I don't want to call in, and I like sleep, I want to take better preventative cautions to help with the insomnia. Starting with tea and sleep aids before bed tonight. And did some dancing/stretching/sit ups earlier to help get rid of some of my extra energy.

Oh man, definitely major props to you for calling in. I'm much the same way when it comes to that, so I'm really glad you did.

And tea and sleep aids, coupled with the exercise, sound like excellent ways to start battling that insomnia! \o/

It makes a world of difference, I've learned. Mood wise, I feel way better for it the next day.

I'm hoping they work! So here's to having a better night's rest. Thank you!

Yeah, that's another thing I've managed to do this year. I still have the guilt, but I think I'm in a much better mental state when I call in rather than force myself through the misery EVERY TIME. Sometimes, apparently, it's the more responsible thing to do.

I did sleep better than the night before, if nothing else.

I DID NOT GO ON TUMBLR AT WORK AFTER I POSTED THAT AS ONE OF MY GOALS. A minor victory, but a victory nonetheless.

I also managed to come up with new test cases for my test plan today, which I was super proud of. My job requires me to test software and figure out all the ways I can break it so we can fix those bugs before we ship our stuff out to customers, and while I've been excellent at testing the things I'm told to test, I've always struggled with thinking of things outside the box.

You do something once, it gets easier after that. So even if it seems minor, it's definitely still an accomplishment, and you should feel proud of it.

And yay for work accomplishments, especially something you've struggled with in the past!
