Excuses! We all have them, and I think we all have some sort of love-hate relationship with them. On one hand, excuses suck. They keep us from getting things done! They make us feel yucky about ourselves. If only they weren't there, we'd be perfect! But on the other, we use them because they work for us. They let us stay in our comfort zone, they let us justify continuing on with the status quo.

You can't get things done until you overcome the excuses, and of course to do that you have to identify them, and make a plan.

Today's exercise: Identify at least one of your most common excuses, and make a plan to work past it or around it. Do as many as you want. If you don't have a plan, that's okay -- we're here to help! This is all about being positive and action-focused, so also feel free to talk about excuses you've overcome in the past and how you did it.

Also, it's always good to write about your daily accomplishments, so if you want to tack that on then feel free!

In the spirit of getting things rolling, let's do a quick exercise! Because the little things we accomplish every day are crucial to our long term goals, we should be sure to acknowledge and celebrate them. It's all well and good to want to learn Chinese, but you can't get there without the day-to-day effort of learning new words and characters!

So, here's the exercise: Comment with at least one thing you did today that you're proud of. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It can be multiple things! It can be absolutely anything.

And if you can't think of something, or you didn't accomplish as much as you wanted, rather than get down on yourself try writing a sentence about what you're going to do to improve matters. If you accidentally slept in when you intended to get up early, instead of telling yourself how lazy you are, write that tomorrow you're going to put your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up in order to shut it off. Negative self-talk doesn't get things done!

Go, fight, win!

This is a community for people who want to do things. Call it resolutions, call it motivation, call it self-help... whatever! We're here because we want to support each other in accomplishing what we want to accomplish. Motivated somewhat by this article and somewhat just by the desire to improve ourselves.

Membership is open, and so is the format. But for the sake of having somewhere to get started:

- Post or comment with the goals you have for yourself. Not things like "become rich and famous!" but things like "get a job" or "learn to cook" or "get in shape". Specific is better!
- Maybe set some time frames for yourself, or short term goals. What you accomplish this week is essential to your larger goals.
- Tell people what helps you to stay motivated and let them offer support!
- If you're struggling or frustrated, ask for help.

I'll try to remember to give posts every so often for people to state their goals. Feel free to make your own that are all about you!

Lock your posts if you want. We're all friends here, and nobody wants your business out there, but it is the internet.

This is more or less a work in progress so let's just tinker and do whatever works. It's all in the name of results!
